Edge Hill Tiger Sharks swimming club is based at the Edge Hill School pool, Russell Street, Edge Hill. Established in 1976, the club continues to have a strong relationship with the school and local community. It is an active and supportive member of both the FNQ Swimming Association and Swimming Queensland.

Head coach, Gail Eales, has been coaching learn-to-swim and squad since 1992 and is ably assisted by Kalyra Sexton. Both coaches are well qualified, maintain their currency and are excellent with young children. Gail’s focus on swimming for fun, fitness and technique has greatly contributed to the success of our very friendly and family orientated club. Swimmers are encouraged to ‘be the best they can be’ within classes targeted to the swimmers comfort level.

Training occurs Monday to Thursday at the following times:

• Guppies (Learn-to-swim): 3.20pm - 3.40pm (2 sessions per week)
• Starfish (Learn-to-swim): 3.40pm - 4.10pm (2 sessions per week)
• Junior Squad: 4.10pm - 4.40pm (4 sessions per week)
• Bronze Squad : 4.40pm - 5.40pm (4 sessions per week)
• Silver & Gold: 4.40pm - 6.40pm (4 sessions per week)

Club nights are held fortnightly on Friday nights from 6 – 8.30pm. These nights are an excellent opportunity to mix with other club members and become familiar with racing rules and procedures. Swimmers swim against their own best times in mixed aged, similar ability races. Parents are also encouraged to get involved by helping out in the kitchen or grabbing a stop watch and recording the swimmers’ times. Cooks night off is held once or twice a month.

Whilst the clubs’ focus is on swimming for enjoyment, there are also regular opportunities for swimmers to swim against others in FNQ with the aim to achieving their personal best. During the swimming season, September to March, A grade, B grade, Family and State Qualifier meets are held at local clubs. The carnival calendar and programs are regularly posted on the club notice board and nominations accepted at the office. Edge Hill hosts a Family Carnival annually and whilst a lot of work, it is very rewarding for both the swimmers and the club.

Edge Hill Tiger Sharks is supported by a dedicated committee that brings a wealth of knowledge to the club. The effort put in by all involved is greatly appreciated. Thankyou! General meetings are held on the last Wednesday of every month at 7.30pm.
