Mareeba Swimming Club
Mareeba Swimming Club Inc. has a history within the town dating back to the 1920's when swimming was conducted at local carnivals in the Barron River. The Club is now located at Mareeba Swimming Pool (now heated) and has about 60 members.
Membership is open to all ages, although the focus of the club is youth and juniors.
The Mareeba Swimming Club Inc. is a community based sporting club. The Club provides facilities for participation in and excellence in swimming and related activities. Through a sporting focus, the club encourages the youth of the community to set and achieve goals, develop commitment and self discipline, and team build with others.
In recent years competitive swimmers from the Club have been very successful and attended State Age, National Age and National Open Championships.
June Cotter has taken over as Head Coach and Lessee of the Mareeba Swimming Pool in August 08. June is Bronze Licence/Level 2 Skills Coach, L2 Triathlon Coach, and L2 Surf Coach. As well as coaching June has participated in World Masters Competition in the United States and World Masters Athletic Competitions in Australia. June’s main focus is development through to an elite level in sport.
Training times are 6.15am - 8.00am and 3.30pm - 6.00pm Monday to Friday. . There are 4 different squads and swimmers are placed in these squads according to age and ability. The amount of training also increases as the children work their way up through the squads. Squad Times are as follows:- Gold Fish 3.30pm to 4.15pm, Piranhas 4.30pm to 5.30pm and Sharks 4.30pm to 6.00pm.
The Club provides inclusive services for disabled swimmers.
